Founder & Therapist: Save It for Therapy

Cassie Shropshire LPC-S, NCC
Cassie N. Shropshire is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor, National Certified Counselor, and founder of Save It for Therapy, LLC. Her clinical work addresses trauma, grief, emotional expression, boundaries, and workplace stress. As co-founder of the Black Girl Burnout Society, she creates spaces for Black women to explore burnout, rest, and community care. She brings experience as a therapist, trainer, and speaker to culturally responsive conversations about anger, expectations of strength, and healing for both clients and clinicians.
Permission to Rage: Processing Anger and Creating Space for Healing in Clients and Clinicians
Anger has a place in the therapy room including the anger clinicians carry themselves. Yet cultural expectations, professional norms, and racial and gender stereotypes can influence whose anger is acknowledged, whose is suppressed, and whose is interpreted as threatening. For Black women, expectations to remain strong while avoiding the “angry Black woman” stereotype can complicate emotional expression and help-seeking. Permission to Rage invites mental health professionals to explore how acknowledging and processing anger can support healing, agency, and connection. Drawing on research concerning gendered racism, the Strong Black Woman Schema, self-silencing, and anger-focused interventions, this session examines anger in the context of injustice, grief, boundary violations, and chronic stress. Participants will distinguish emotional validation from endorsement of harmful behavior and explore processing strategies that extend beyond venting. Through guided reflection, case discussion, and skills practice, participants will examine how their own experiences with anger may influence assessment, therapeutic responses, and professional boundaries. The session will address research-informed approaches to emotional awareness, regulation, assertive communication, and values-guided action, alongside the role of supervision and consultation in processing clinician anger. Participants will leave with practical tools for making room for anger in ways that support client care and clinician well-being.
